DUNEDIN WOOL SALES.

By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 17. The first of the series of Dunedin wool sales was held to-day. The total-offerings were 8,821 bales, as against 4,688 at the opening sale last year, the increase no doubt being accounted for by the fine weather during the last few weeks, and also by the fact that prices ruling at North sales were much in advance of what was expected earlier in the season. There was a large ' attendance of buyers representing British, Continental and American centres, as well as local buyers. The quality of clip for most part was equal to that of last year, but some of the Central Otago wool gave evidence of a severe winter. The most noticeable feature comparatively high prices paid hy Bradford buyers for sound crossbred hogget wool of good length. Continental buyers were strong competitors for medium halfbred, in many cases outbiddingof the local mills, who usually take the bulk of these lots.

Prices ruled as follows: —Super, halfbred 10>jd to Is, medium to good 8d"to JOd, inferior to 7£d, super, crossbreds lOd to 121 d, good super, crossbreds 7fd to 9Jd, medium super, crossbred 6Jd to 7Jd, super, merinos 12d, medium to good B£d tc IOJd, irferior 7d to pieces, bellies and locks sold at a reduction of Id to l£d per lb.
