THE NATIVE MINISTER SPEAKS. A GOVERNMENT VICTORY ON THE LAND QUESTION. By Telegraph—Press Association. GISBORNE, December 2. Addressing a large gathering of' electors after the result of the Bay of Plenty contest became known last j night, the Hon. J. Carroll said the election had been fought on the straight-out issue—viz., freehold only versus freehold and leasehold, and the Government policy, which included freehold as well as leasehold had been confirmed. The forces on both sides were brought to bear in the contest, which was the rubber of the second ballots, and the Government won all along the line.
