By Tefegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, November 26. At the annual meeting of the Napier Chamber ofCommerce to-day, the president, Mr C. Ellison, in his address made thefinancial stringency. He alluded to the withdrawal from the Dominion of practically all the bona fide mortgage companies who had been driven out as the result of the operations of the Advances to Settlers Act. Continuing, he expressed the opinion that the mortgage tax should be abolished and foreign capital be allowed to compete on equal terms with the Government Department. In conclusion, he said that he hoped soon to see business resume its normal condition.
