OUR DEFENCE FORCES.

The public are not satisfied with the condition of the defence forces of New Zealand, and* the me,mbers of the forces themselves are not satisfied. If the volunteers were ever required for active service in the Dominion they would have to set about providing all the little details of organisation on which their existence in the field would depend, and it is not to the credit of the authorities that the branches of training outside the routine work of the corps should be so sadly neglected, remarks the "Lyttelton Times." Of course, we all hope and believe that New Zealand will not have to meet a hostib invasion, but if we are to be pared at all we ought to be well prepared.
