NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION. Received October 16, 9,15 a.m. HOBART, October 16. In the Legislative Assembly, on the resumption of the want of confidence debate, the Premier read a letter from the Judges notifying that if extra pay was voted they wouid not accept it. The Premier therefore moved that the amount be struck out. This was carried. During the debate the Premier intimated that the Judges intended to refund £250 extra that they had already received.
MOUNT LYELL RETURNS,
Received October 16, 9.15 a.m MELBOURNE, October 16
The Mount Lyell mine returns from September 10th till October 7th (inclusive) show that 30,179 tons of ore was treated, also 18 tons of purchased ore, and that the converters produced 587 tons of blister copper, containing: copper, 580 tons silver, 50,5?20z gold, 1,1420z. The decreased yield of blister copper is attributed to the somewhat lower tonnage mined and to slightly lower assays of the values of the ore.
A SERIOUS MATTER.
CONFLICT BETWEEN CHINESE AND JAPANESE TROOPS.
Received October 16, 11.9 p.m SEOUL, October 16.
A conflict, lasting several hours, occurred between Chinese and Japanese troops at Kartao, on the northern Korean border. It is feared that the conflict will lead to serious complications. The Japanese allege that the Chinese were the aggressors. Immediate satisfaction is demanded at Pekin.
