OTAKI RACES.
OTAKI, October 15. The weather was fine and the attendance fair for the (second day of the races. Results: — , Railway Handicap—Toa 'l'uhi, 8.4, 1; Flotilla, 7.0, 2; Duart, 7.12, 3. Also started—Lord Soult. A good race. Won easily by a length. Time, Imin 15 2-ssec. Hack Hurdles—Lyrist, 11.11. 1; Hatley, 10.G, 2; Waimaria, 9.0, 3. Also started—Papatawa, Dane and Yosami. Lyrist took charge a quarter-mile from home, winning easily by three lengths. Yosami fell. Time, Imin 52 3-ssec. Otaki Hack—King Post, 9.0, 1; Kangihaeta, 7.9, 2; Roosevelt, 7.7, 3. Also started Bluebell and Aotea. A great race up the straight, King Post winning by a neck. Trial Handicap—Roosevelt, 9.0, 1; Longher, 7.7, 2; Notorious, 8.7, 3. Also started—Coy, Clemency, Marutoa, Vinco and Attom. A good race. Won by half a length. DEMONSTRATION HANDICAP. Swimming Belt, 8.1 (Jenkins) 1 Irish Rifle, 9.8 (Reid) 2 Only starters. The pair kept together all the way, Swimming Belt winning by a bare neck. Time, Imin 29 3-ssec. Rangiuru Handicap : — Playmate, ' 10.2, 1; Buoyant, 8.10, 2; Zoraida, 9.8, 3. Also started Flintgun, Scenery, Don Carlos and Whimper. Playmate took charge at the bend,
and won hard held by a length. Time, Imin 45sec. Electric Hack —The Saint, 8.3, 1; Investment, 8.6, 2; Glentui, 7.6, 3. Also started —Wheturnarama, Bonnie Doon and Silver Light. Won all the way by a length. Time, Imin Ssec. Welter Handicap Probability, 8.2, 3; Daisy Paul, 8.11, 2; Hiro, a. 12, 3. Scratched —lrish Rifle. Probability came with a great rattle at the finish and won by a length. Time, luiin 30sec. The sum put through the totalisator was £3,644. Eight bookmakers were licensed.
