NORTHERN UNION GAME. hy telv:gb,u'ii—i'uess association. DUNEKIN, October 3. The football match between Otsgo and Southland under the Northern Union rules was played here to-day. The home team contained no representative players, but six who took part in senior inter-ciub matches were in the team. A high wind interfered somewhat with the play, but the game was fairly interesting. The Otago forwards were superior to the opponents,but the Soit land backs were better than those of the home side. The game resulted in a win for Otago by 11 points to 8. For the winneis tries were scored by Harry, Bryant and Walker, one being converted. Southland's score consisted of tries by Burgess and Burrows, and a goal kicked from a mark by Reid.

IMPROVING RUGBY. WANGANUI, October 4. The committee appointed by the Wanganui Rugby Union to report on the Otago Union's motions re alterations to the laws of the game, report in favour of all of the proposals except motion 4—"that the rules of professionalism be revised so as to pay players for the loss of time while touring with a representative team"—which the delegates were instructed to oppose. The Wanganui Union is sending delegates to the meeting of the New Zealand Union on October Bth, when the proposals will be discussed.
