WRECK OF A BARQUE. CONSIDERABLE LOSS OF LIFE. Received September 24, 8.40 a.mJ LONDON, September 23. The barque Star of * Bengal, an iron vessel of 1,877 tons gross, a-id 1,684 tons net, ar.d owned by the Alaska Packers' Association, has been wrecked en the Alaskan coast. The loss of life was considerable, nine whites and 101 Chinese and Japanese being drowned. Those saved numbered twentyseven.
