MR MASSEY AT PALMERSTON NORTH.
i By Telegraph—Press Association. FALMERSTON N., Sept. 21. Messrs W. F. Massev, Leader of the Opposition, and J. Allen, Member for Bruce, addressed a crowded meeting at the Opera House to-night. '/he Leader of the Opposition criticised the Government on general lines, declaring it had no policy of its own, and condemned the Second Ballot Bill, especially the "gag" clauses, and advocated election by proportional representation. He declared that the effect of the Gaming Bill of last year had been io increase gambling and improve the state of the professional gamblers. There were provisions that were a disgrace to the country, and should be removed. He defined the Opposition policy, stating that they wanted provision for liberal labour laws, educational improvement such as free passage from primary schools to university, both branches of legislature matfe representative of the people, and the freeing of industry from unnecessary restriction. He wished to see a Government that was able to put forward a definite policy, and who would administer the law fearlessly and impartially. He stated that he would again address a meeting here before the election.
