MASTERTON MUNICIPAL BAND.
RESIGNATION OF THE CONDUCTOR.
The conductor of the Masterton Municipal Band (Mr W. R. Varn ham), who several months ago accepted temporarily the position in succession <-o Mr F. W. G. McLcod, in the hope that he would be able to occupy the office permanently if circumstances permitted,' has been reluctantly compelled to tender his resignation, and has asked the Band to relieve him from duty as early as possible. Mr Varnham has found thet he cannot devote the timo he deems necessary to the important work which devolves upon the conductor, and though the Band has maintained its high'standard of playing under Mr Varnham, it will be impossible for that gentleman to continue in the position for the reasons stated. Mr Varnham has asked to he relieved by the end of the present month, and the executive of the Band will endeavour to accede to his request. In the event of their being unable to do so, Mr Varnham will continue in charge until a .successor is appointed.
