This did not satisfy the defendant, who wished to Bee the lady attired in the skirt also. The hour being 1 p.m., the time for the usual luncheon adjournment, the Magistrate very judiciously postponed the case until 2 o'clock, instructing the plaintiff to appear ,at that hour with the skirt on. Sundry allegations as to the finer points of c.istume-making being neglected placed the Bench in a rather amusing position, as the I Magistrate was called upon to decide whether the feminine idea of a wellmade dress had been realised in defendants' handiwork, surely an embarrassing proposition for any "mere man" to have to answer.

His advice to shareholders was to eo in for _ growing maize for . autumn feed for cowa. Two.ysars ago he put in one-third of an acre j of maize, which kept his cows going for 20 days. Last year he , put in two acres, and he milked exactly the same number of cows as, before, but in spite of the drought arid two points less in test, his returns showed 5451bs of butter fat more than previously, snd he took it that this was entirely - due to the maize. The loss to* Riverdale suppliers owing to the drought was about £3,000, but the man with the maize lost nothing.
