MASTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB.
ANNUAL SOCIAL AND DANCE,
The Master-ton Football Club held its annual social and dance in the Forescejrs' Hall last evening, the function being very largely attended, and proving most enjoyable. The floor of the Hall, always a specially favourable feature, was in extra good trim, and the music, supplied by Mr F. McKenzie, was also the subject of favourable comment. The joint secretaries for the gathering, (Messrs W. Redmond and B. Chapman) left nothing to be desired in the way of appointments, and the social was a pronounced success. A ladies' committee, comprising Mesdames W. C. Perry, F. O'Connor, Waters, and Misses O'Leary, Ward, A. Hogg and Brown, had arranged for a supper of an inviting nature; in fact, one of the best provided at R'.iy 1?:?1 dance this se:3un. The M's.C. w.ic -..Messrs W. G. Lamb, J. O'Leary, P. Barry and H. M. Boddington. Extras were played by Miss Daniell and Mr Mcintosh. | PRESENTATION TO jMR D. E? PARTON. [ A pleasant feature ot the social was a presentation to the late Secre : tary (Mr D. E. Parton) who will leave for Taihapo to-day. Mr W. G. Lamb, President of the Club, in the cour.:e of a speech which accompan-s ied the presentation, said that the departure of Mr Parton meant 'that the Masterwu Club were lo?jng >\ valued and edtQomed secretary a.id ! organiser. Possessed of energy, tact and ability Mr Parton, duflflg the seven year? he had been associated with the Club, had inspired in its members the same keen interest in its affairs that Mr Parton had showfi himself. The result had been that from a weak financial position the Club had risen to one of comparative flifchgth, while in other respects it, ieU proud of its position, and of the wofk of its secretary and organise?, Ha (Mr Lamb) said the CluD wished Mr and Mrs Parton every possible' stfcdess, and assured Mr Parton that Ma's'tenon footballers were pleased to'lWrW of his promotion, and would always 1 he pleased to hear of his further vrn:emcnt in the service. He thTm handed Mr Parton a handsome silver hot water kettle mounted on a silver staid with silver spirit lamp. Mr JD. K. Logan echoed pjthe remarks of the President, and paid a particular compliment to Mrs Parton for'her valuable aid to the Club in social matters. The assembled company then sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow,',', and gave hearty cheers for Mr... and Mrs Parton. Mr Parton, in a brief reply, said he felt deeply the parting from so many kindly friends and comrades, and he felt assured that their handsome gift to him was a token of true appreciation of what efforts he had put forward on behalf of his Club. He was proud of them and their record, and would be pleased to learn that they maintained the interest now shown by members. On behalf of Mrs Parton and himself he thanked them most heartily for their beautiful gift.
