BOXING MATCH.

BURNS DEFEATS LANG

SQUIRES CHALLENGES THE WINNER. Received September 3, 5.15 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 3. The match between T. Burns (the Canadian) and Lang (of Victoria) was fought to-day. There was a large attendance. Before the fight commenced Squires challenged the winner. The first round was uneventful, but in the second round Lang met Burns straight on the chin and sent the champion down for nine seconds, the round ending in favour of Lang. At the end of the third round, Lang looked tired, Burns keeping his opponent constantly on the move. The fourth round held "a lot of trouble for Lang, lie was sent down twice in succession. Burns was infighting too much for the Victorian. In the fifth round Lang received a series of quick left-hand jabs. Then Burns dropped him for five seconds, and shortly ai'ter floored hi.n for eight seconds. Out of a quick exchange, Burns slipped and was down for a couple of seconds, hut found Lang's chin with a heavy right, and laid his opponent prrne for four seconds when the round closed. In the sixth round Burns had Lang dancing round the ring. He eventually cornered him and planted a series of left jabs on the face and body. Twice in sucession Burns dropped him, the first time for eight seconds and the second time for nine seconds, the latter punch sending Lang through the ropes. Burns was "kidding" Lang, letting him land him on the face. Finally the cham picn rushed his man across the ring. He feinted with his left and sent a heavy right across, which landed on the jaw and knocked Lang clean out when the round had ten seconds to go. When Lang was taken to his corner he was cut and bleeding.
