ORCHESTRAL PROGRESS.
The Masterton Orchestral Society gave a concert in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening which was very creditable in all respects. The Society is in its fifth season, and is now a very mature musical concern, as was demonstrated by the excellence of its playing on Tuesday night. Good orchestral music is bo rarely heard in Masterton that it is somewhat surprising that the attendance of the musical public was not greater. Possibly the Society will be wise in taking into consideration the question of reducing the. price of admission to its concerts, to thu3 encourage public support. . Not that the present tariff is high, for it is not; but there are doubtless many people who consider that local organisations of the nature of a musical society should cater for the public at a lower rate than travelling companies, bent solely on profit-making. The very enjoyable concert of Tuesday evening, if repeated to a full audience, would insure success for evary future concert of the Society, which comprises some really first-class musicians.
