BRITAIN DEFEATS NEW SOUTH WALES. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Received August 9, 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY, August 8. The match to-day between the British team and New South Wales was played in very bad weather. About 20,000 people were present, and the ground wag ankle-deep in mud. Harding did not play owing to injuries, and Dibble captained the visitors. The visitors almost scored within a few minutes of the opening. There was some capital play on b3th sides, but New South Wales could not break down the defence of the Britishers, which was magnificent and the tackling was deadly. From fast play in the New South Wales 25 Ponty Jones secured the ball, and running brilliantly outstripped his opponents and sent the, ball to Tuan Jones, who scored. Ponty Jonea made at poor attempt to add extra points. The local team obtained the ball more than the visitors, but failed to make good use of the chance.
In the second half play was very good. A formidable dash ended in Davery scrambling over the line. Tuan Jones added an easy goal. New South Wales took a turn at attacking, but the Britishers drove them back, and soon had the local team defending. The visitors snowed ability in playing on the boggy ground. The whistle sounded without further score.
NEW MAORI TEAM. SYDNEY, August 8. 1 The Maoris have formed a new team, and arranged to play a match under Northern Union rules on Wednesday against a New South Wales team. Probably at least another match will be played.

A LEADING CLUB DISQUALIFIED. NAPIER, August 8. For failing to keep an engagement, the Rovers Club, who were leading for the championship, have been disqualified by the Rugby Union till the end of the season. WAIRARAPA JUNIORS v. MARLBOROUGH JUNIORS. (By Telegraph—Special Reporter.) BLENHEIM, August 9. The match between the Wairarapa and Marlborough Juniors representatives was played on the Showgrounds yesterday, before a fair attendance of the public. Marlborough had a very strong team in the field, while the Wairarapa players had not got over their rough sea trip. Marlborough won by 12 points (4 tries) to 6 points (2 tries). The game was keenly contested all through. For Wairarapa George Ross scored a good try from a forward rush, and Flaws was given a try ior deliberate obstruction. All the Wairarapa forwards played as could be expected after the sea trip. Webster, D. Ross, Golder, and Desmond were, perhaps, the best. The backs acquitted themselves well. The Marlborough Union officials took both teams for a drive to day, which was very much enjoyed. The team will leave Blenheim on Tuesday morning, and will play We ; - lington on Wednesday.
BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, August 8. The inter-club football matches concluded to-day. Dunedin (6 points) beat Zingari-Richmond (nil); Southern (6) beat Alhambra (3); Kaikorai (12) beat University (5); Port Chalmers (6) beat Union (3); Taieri Rovers (29) beat Pirates (nil). Dunedin has won the first and second grade banners. It is understood that a team of professional footballers will leave Wellington for Auckland on the 20th instant to play at least one match against a local professional team. Mr Dan Fraser, of Petone, a member of the professional team which toured England, is the organising secretary.
