MASTERTON v. WELLINGTON RAMBLERS.
The Wellington Ramblers' Club, which holds a high position in the Wellington Senior League, is sending their representative team to play the Masterton Club, to-morrow, Saturday. The match will be played at Lansaowne, opposite the new Hospital. The local eleven is a very strong one, and may be relied upon to give the visitors a good go. The kick-off will take place at 2.15 p.m. Masterton will be represented by the following players:—Goal, J. Elder; backs, Lawrence, Smith; half-backs, T. Elder, G. Robertson and W. Elder; forwards, Glen, Holmes. McDougall, Nixon, Shepherd. Mr Leighton will referee.
A match was played at Carterton, yesterday, between the Wairarapa Third-class representatives and the Thursday Union Juniors, and resulted in a win for the former by 3 points to nil. The Third-class players had the best of the game all through. Their forwards played with more dash and combination than the opposing forwards, while their backs handled the ball in capital style, and kicked and passed well. But for the splendid defensive work of E. Workman the score of the winners would have been considerably greater. Billington, who played a fine game all through, scored for the Third-class players. The last match between the teams was played in 1905, and was won by the Third-class players.
