FOOTBALL.

SOUTH CANTERBURY v. TARANAKI.

BY TEX.KQBAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 6. ' Taranaki gave a shocking exhibition of football to-day in the match against South Canterbury, lacking dash and finish. The new players alone played up to Interprovincial form, while the cracks (Cameron, Dive, Hunter, Coleman and O'Sullivan) were painfully inaccurate in their work. The South Canterbury forwards played a fine game, while their backs were fairly safe, and with little difficulty made the first spell end in a draw. Early in the second spell Mynott made a fine openir.g and run, passing to Sheehan, who dashed across. South Canterbury were forced many times, but Taranaki's attack was disjointed and indecisive. Near the end of the game the visitors pressed strongly, and just on the call of time O'Brien crossed the line, but unfortunately just failed to ground the ball, and the game ended in a win for Taranaki by 3 points to nil. For the winners, Mynott and Hardgreaves (backs), and Pukere and Tamu (forwards) played solidly, while Spillane, Scott, Bradley and Priest (backs), Roddick, O'Brien and Budd (lorwards) were the most prominent amongst the visitors.
