DULLNESS IN TRADE.
Business, buth wholesale and retail, is reported to be at present in a bad way in Dunedin, and a period of allround dulness is being experienced. Tradespeople complain of the general tightness of money, and altogether the "Edinburgh of the South" is passing through a period to which it has been a stranger for many a long day. The i-ecent American crisis 13 credited with very far-reaching effects, and it is stated by business people that American firms have been dumping their goods heavily into New Zealand in order to realise on them at almost any sacrifice. This, it is contended, has had a depressing effect on trada in Dunedin.
