THE PRINCE CHAP.

The announcement that Mr 11. R. Roberts will appear at Masterton on Wednesday, August sth, opening in the "Prince Chap," is invested with more than ordinary interest owing to the fact that Mr Roberts is a New Zealander by birth, who has during nine years' absence abroad become a distinguished actor on the English and American stage. Nearly all old playgoers will remember Harry Roberts' impersonations of John Stofel in "Struck Oil," of David Garrick in the "Silence of Dean Maitland." Since that time Mr Roberts has had a uniquo experience which commenced in America about nine years ago, when after touring the Western States in conjunction with Miss Maggie Moore he was engaged to "star" as Petronius in the production of "Quo Vadis." This engagement brought Mr Roberts so far into prominence that he attracted the attention of David Belasco, the leading American manager, who secured Mr Roberts to support Mrs Leslie Carter, the classic artist of America. For four years Mr Roberts maintained his position at the Belasco Theatre, New York, and at the end of that time a greater chance eamn when Mr E. H Peple, a well-known author, had (Written a play called "The Prince "Chap," which entirely suited Mr Roberts. The season here will be limited to two nights, and the box plan will be open at Miss Rive's on Saturday morning next. "The Prince Chap" will be Mr Roberts' opening bill, and on the second evening a change will be made to Henry Arthur Jones' comedy "The Case of Rebellious Susan."
