RECEPTION TO COMPETITORS

Received July 13, 9 a.m. LONDON, July 12. Five thousand competitors, representing twenty-two countries, were present at the Olympic Council's reception to mark the inauguration of the great sports meeting. In the Olympic lawn tennis contests, Mr J. G. Kitcirie (Britain) won the gold medal. Many leading players did not compete.

'INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION WuN HY UNITED STATES.

LONDON, July 12. The United Stated team, using the short Springfield rifle, won the International Olympic Competition, fired at Bisley. The following were the scores:— United States 2,531 points. England ... 2,496 points. Canada ... 2,439 points. The Engli h and Canadian teams used the Lee~Snfield rifle.
