ACCIDENT TO AN AIRSHIP.
SIXTEEN PERSONS INJURED. Received May 25, 8.44 a.m. NEW XORK, May 24. A Morell airship, 45 feet long, propelled by five forcy horse-jjowtr engines, fell 30 feet during a trial trip, in the presence of a thousand spectators, at Berkeley, California. Sixteen occupants were seriously injured, sustaining fractured limbs. The victims were local residents, who contemplated investment in a company which proposed to build similar airships. Received May 25, 10.55 p.m. NEW YORK, May 25. Morrell claimed that hj« had discovered a successful combination of the principles of aeroplanes and dirigible balloons. When at a height of 300 feet the airship tilted nose downwards, and then the envelope burst. The airship feU slowly until 75 feet from the ground, when it collapsed. The occupants jumped out. Seven were severely injured and the others slightly so. The inventor had a leg broken.
