FOOTBALL.

ARRRIVAL OP ANGLO-WELSH TEAM. ; By Telegraph —Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 18. The Anglo-Welsh team of footballers arrived this morning by the Athenic from London. OFFICIAL RECEPTION.

WELLINGTON, May 18. A tremendous crowd gathered at the Town Hall, this afternoon, to be present at the official reception of the British footballers to New Zealand. The Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hialop), in welcoming the team to the dominion, said such a visit was of very great benefit in drawing closer the ties of kinship between the people of the Old Country and those of this dominion. He hoped the visitors would find that there had been no deterioration of the British race in this young country. He extended a very cordial welcome on behalf of the citizens of Wellington. Sir Joseph Ward assured the team that wherever they went in New Zealand th-jy would be received with the greatest cordiality, and there v&aa no doubt whatever that they would meet with absolutely fair play in all their matches. New Zealinderd remembered with pleasure the very cordial reception that was given to the "All Blacks" during their .visit to England, and desired to have this opportunity to in some way reeiuroi:atu. Whatever tho Government could do to make the tour oftiu- team peasant they would be ni<ut baupy to do. Tua cpuin and manager both re'turr.el t»a:,.a. Tha former atetea that hax uie Irish and Scottish Unions ca-jper.ited in sending the team there was no doubt a stronger team would have arrived. Nevertheless it was a sound team that had come, and he hoped the visit would be of benefit to the cause of amateur Eugby football in New Zealand.

. Captain Harding remarked that he had some pleasant recollections of his visit to New Zealand as a member of Bedell-Sivwright's team in 1904, and did not require any assurance that the present team would receive the most scrupulous fair play in its matches. They could hardly hope to I go back to England with such a record as the New Zealand team of 1906 had made in England because j all English- footballers knew that that combination was the very finest team of Rugby players that ever want on tour Still they hoped to give a good account of themselves. They were good men, and had youth in their favour. If they did not win a majority of the test matches it would do them no harm, and if they did it might have a good effect on amateur Rugby foot--1 ball in New Zealand. , LIST OF PLAYERS. i The \ht of members of the AngloWelsh team is as follows: Full-backs—*J.
