AUTUMN SESSION INEVITABLE.
Received May 13, 8.3 a.m. LONDON, May 13. In the House of Commons Mr H. H. Asquith stated that an autumn session was inevitable. IRISH UNIVERSITIES BILL. Received May 13, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, May 22. Mr Hutton's amendment respecting Irish Universities Hill was owing to the denominational basis was defeated by 352 votes to 38. The Bill was read a second time by 344 votes to 31, after Mr Redmond, SirE. Carson and Mr Binell had spoken in support of it. Mr W. Moore, Conservative member' for the x North Division of Armagh, taunted Mr Lloyd-George and other Liberal leaders with having been falso to the pledges given to Noncomformist electors. MR CHURCHILL CHEERED. Received May 13, 8.3 a.m. LONDON, May 12. Mr Winston Churchill, who has beeh returned as member for Dundee, was loudly cheered when introducted to members in the House of Commons by Hon. H. H. Asquith. HOUSING AND TOWN PLANNING BILL. Received .Vay 13, 10.54 p.m. LONDON, May 13. The Hon. John Burns' Housing and Town Planning Bill was r*ad a second time in the House of Commons without division. Many complaints, however, were made that the bill was not lucid enough.
MONTROSE BURGHS BYELECTION. Received May 13, 10.54 p.m. LONDON, May 13. The by-election for the Montrose Burghs seat resulted as follows: — Mr Robert Vernon-IJarcourt, Liberal 3,083 Mr Burgess, Labour 1,1)37 Mr Constable, Conservative 1,576 Mr Robert Vernon-Harcourt is a son of the.late Sir William Vernor:Harcourt. FIRE IN A"FACTORS. A MAN BURNED TO DEATH. Received May 13, 1.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 13. A fire broke out in a fire-kindler factory, and destroyed several buildings in che vicinity. One employee in the fire-kindler factory was burned to death. Four other workmen were badly burned.
