A MINISTER'S ViEWS.
Received May 13, 9.58 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 18
The Rev. Mr Weir, the new Modof the Presbyverian Assembly, CJpealing with the question of church ■union, said one of the principal hind- • ranees to union was tho existence of two divergant types of Christian life •—the emotional and the contemplative. The emotional type dominated the Methodists., and the contemplative the Presbyterians. They could only be fU3ed under considerable pressure. "As to the Gl'urch of England.", s-added tho spetker, "we can se>. : no immediate prospect of union with that branch of the church as. a • Church. We can scarcely expect that - clergy who bflieve they have priestly power would join with those who put I their cherished tenents on a par with I belief in witchcraft or alchemy." The Moderator believed that to obtain even partial union no sacrifice, except that of conscientious principles, would be too great.
