JUDGES ENTERTAINED. WELLINGTON, May ™ The local practitioners entertained the Juuges of thu Appeal Court at a' dinner at the Grand Hotel, Mr H. D. Bell, K.C., presiding. Apologies were received from the , Chief Justice, the Attorney-Genera), Sir James Penclergast and Justke, Sim. A resolution passed by the Otego Law Society was' read as follows:—• "The Council of the Otago Law Society, in the name of the members of the legal profession of Otago, the district in which his Honor Mr Justice Williams has exercised judicial functions for a period of more than 33. years, desire to tender to his Honor their congratulations* upon his having been enabled to discharge the duties of-his high office in a manner so beneficial to the piibl'c, so honourable to himself and tor a term exceeding in duration that enjoyed by any other judge of a Supreme Court in Australasia." Replying, Judge Williams said it was quite true he had made a record but he thought that the fact of his sitting for 33 years was creditable, not so much to himself, as to the vitality of his constitution. He hoped to continue to sit for many years. Continuing, his Honor said he had always done his best to be on good terms with the profession, and to assist the younger members of the Bar. The Bench and Bar, he said, had noble traditions, and should do their best to act up to them.
