THE BLACKBALL STRIKE.
ACTIONS AGAINST MINERS. A PROTEST FROM THE UNION. BY TELE'iEAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. GREYMOUTH, May 3. There is a good deal of indignation expressed in Blackball over the issue of summonses by Mr Isdull, Inspector of Factories, notifying that he will apply for an order under section 101 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act,, 1905, against members of the Blackball Miners' Union, and having the place and time of hearing fixed at Auckland for Monday at 10 a.m. At a meeting of the Union, held to consider the matter, the following communication, as a result of aresolution, was addressed to Judge Sim, Messrs S. Brown and J. A. MacCullough, at Auckland:—"As President of the Blackball Miners' Union, on behalf of myself and other members of the Union, we protest and object to an application made by the Inspector of Factories being heard at Auckland on Monday next, outside the Westland Industrial District, for an order directing the payment by the individual members of the Union of any portion of the line of £75 lavied on the Union. We wish t<> submit points showing that the Court has no jurisdiction to order individual memoes to pay any portion of the fine inflicted. The time allowed for appearing at Auckland is insufficient, and we cannot afford the expense of travelling, there. (Signed) H. J. Fux, President of the Blackball Miners' Union."
