THE NORTH-WEST MANCHESTER ELECTION. Received April 21, 8.12 a.m. LONDON, April 20. "The Times" says that, apart from the prospect of the loss of a hundred votes to Mr Can Irving, the Socialist, the transfer of 500 to Mr Joynson-Hicks must rather upset Mr Churchill's calculations. He had, says "The Times," great hopes of carrying a solid Irish vote. SUFFRAGETTES DETERMINED. Received April 21, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, April 20. The suffragettes are straining every nerve to defeat Mr Winston Churchill, M.P. Received March 21, 8.12 a.m. LONDON, April 20. Mr Joynson-Hicks, in a speech, described the Miners' Eight Hours Bill as a tax on the raw material, and the action of Freetraders in supporting it was inconsistent. _ At the general election in 1906 Mr Joynson-Hicks opposed Mr Winston Churchill in North-west Manchester, and secured 4398 votes, as against 5,639 given Mr Churchill. The coming contest, a variety of reasons, promises to be an unusually interesting one, and it was recently stated that the Conservative bodies in Manchester intended to leave no stone unturned to secure the Minister's defeat, though it is understood that a Welsh member of the House of Commons is ready to resign his seat in Mr Churchill's favour.
