HOCKEY.
As evidence of the progress of hockey in Wellington, no less than thirteen grounds are required this year for the men's championship matches. A meeting of S. Matthew's Hockey Club was held last evening. Mr K. Hatch presided, and twelve members were present. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Rev. Mr Watson; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs J. L. Murray and G. Hyde; cantain, Mr R. Hatch; vicecaptain, Mr W. Barr; secretary, Mr J. Berry: treasurer, Mr F. Dixon; delegates to Association, Messrs R. Hatch and J. Berry. It was decided to open the season with a match against the Tui Club ruxt Saturday. The fol'owine: teams will represent the W.F.C.A. Hookey Club in a practice match at Lansdowne to-morrow afternoon:—A team.-—Hall, Smith, Thynne, Russell, McFarlane, Henry, Dunn, Maxwell, Pragnell, Dickson, Whitt, Jago, Wokelin, Kelly /and Home. B team.— Keisenberg, McGinnity, J. Long, H. Richards, Fairbrother, Scrimgeour, La Roche, Schubert, Ralph, Minett, V. Richards, Potter, Robertson, Torrance and Bu3h. A full muster of players is specially requested, as the A and B teams to represent the Club during the season will be selected after this practice. The team to represent the Y.M.C. A. Hockey Club in a match against Knox Club, to be played at Lansdowne to-morrow, will be selected from the following:— Williams (2), H. Donald, J. B. Rue, L. Nicol, A. E. Rees, Hatch, Toobey, Hebenton, J. Gordon, F. Griffith, Berry and Winchester. Play will commence at 2.30 p.m. The Y.M.C.A. colours are black.
