Received March 30, 9 a.m. BERLIN, March 30. Germany is placing orders this spring for the construction of three large battleships to take the places of the Oldenburg, Siegfried, Beowulf; also four large armoured cruisers,two smaller, and twelve ocean-going torpedoers. SUVA, March 31.
In regard to the mysterious wreck of a schooner, the Neuvre Tigre, at the Apamama L'agoon, in che Gilbert Group, the sequel to which was the arrest of Mortimer, a cook, and Jackson, a cabin boy, on a charge of murdering the captain and mate of the vessel, the Mariana will bring the murderers from Tarawa to Suva. LONDON, March 30. In connection with recent robberies on the London and North-wsstern Railway, Henry Slee, a clerk in the London and North-western Railway parcels office, has been sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment on a charge of theft. Others charged were remanded. Received March 31, 11.35 p.m. BERLIN, March 31. The German newspapers admit that Mr Charlemagne Tower, at the Kaiser's instance, conveyed to the authorities at Washington certain objections to Dr. Hill, based on the fact that his private means were insufficient to enable him to maintain America's prestige. (In November last the Kaiser approved of President Roosevelt's nomination of Dr. Hill as Ambassador at The Hague, in succession to Mr Charlemagne Tower. The Kaiser recently sent, through the American Embassy, a personal letter to President Roosevelt, giving private reasons why Dr. Hill would be unacceptable. A cablegram published yesterday morning stated that it wat> officially announced at Berlin that nothing now stands in the way of Dr. Hill's nomination).
