AN EXPERIENCE AT GUNNEDaH. DAMAGE IN THE TAMWORTH DISTRICT. Received March 18, 9.20 a.m. SYDNEY, March 1:8. The arrival of water from above the town caused a renewal of the flood at Gunnedah. Residents in low-lying streets were compelled to leave their houses while many residents of hamlets along the river are seeking refuge in the town. The church is being used to accom-' modate the homeless. The water extends as far as the eye can reach. The flood is the biggest since 1864. In some places the water is up to the eaves of the houses. Flood boats are out. Four hundred sheep were drowned on a common. It is feared the loss'Of crops and stock will be exceedingly heavy. Narrabri reports that the river is again rising, a fact that is causing much anxiety: Numbers ol stock are surrounded by water. A selector at Wee Waa saved 400 sheep, dismantling his stockyard and building a raft whereon he placed the sheep. The damage by floods in the Tamworth district is estimated at £40,000. NARRABRI RIVER STILL RISING. COUNTRY SUBMERGED. Received March IS, 12.45 p.m. SYDNEY, March 18. The big flood in the Narrabri (New South Wales) river is still rising. The suburbs ana" all the surrounding country are submerged. People are taking refuge on the high lands. There have bsen exciting experiences during the rescuing of stock. REPORTS FROM QUEENSLAND. A PATHETIC CASE OF DROWNING. Received March 18, 10.22 a.m. SYDNEY, March 18. Telegraphic communication wilh Queensland is still interrupted by the floods, and there is no immediate prospect of its restoration. Messages for Brisbane are being cabled via New Zealand. Brisbane files to hand show that the floods in the Brisbane river submerged a wide suburban area. The drowning of Constable Mur *agh at Fortitude Valley while trying to rescue a horse, was surrounded by iathetic' circumstances. His companions would not give up attempts at rescue until they were completely exhausted.
