The match between the Pahiatua and Masterton Lawn Tennis Clubs, played on the local Club's grounds yesterday, resulted in a win for the Masterton Club by nine matches to seven. Following are the scores: —
Singles, best of three sets.—C. C. Cox beat J. G. Swainson, 6~3, 6—2; G. G. Aitken beat W. H. Swainson, 6—3, 6—2; A R. Sclanders beat C. E. McShane, 6—2, 5—6, 7—5; *. H. Elcoatc beat Rev. Compton, 6—2, 4__6, 6—o; Miss M. H. Payton lost to Miss R. Hughes, B—9; Mrs W. H. Cruickshank lost to Miss L. K. Hughes, 4 —9; Miss Whitcombe lost to Miss Granl, 4—9; Miss Carr lost t > Miss Bolton, B—9. Doubles.—C. C. Cox and G. G. Aitken beat Swainson Bros., 6 —2, 6—3; S. R. Gawith and F. H. Elcoate beat C. E. McShane and jßev. Compton 6—3, 6—5; C. C. Cox and Miss Payton lost to J. G.Swainson and Miss R. Hughes, 4—6, 6—3, 3—6; G. G. Aitken and Mrs Cruickshank beat W. H. Swainson and Miss 6—3, 6—3; S. R. Gawith and Miss Whitcombe lost to C. E. MacShane and MissL. K. Hughes, o—6, 4-6; F. H. Elcoate and Miss Carr beat Rev. Compton and Miss Bolton, 6—5, 6 —3; Mi' 3 W. Cruickshank and Miss M. H. Payton beat Misses Hughes and Grant, 9—B; Misses Whitcombe and Carr lost to Misses L. K. Hughes and Bolton, I—9. The visitors were entertained by the local Club at lunch at the Club Hotel, and returned to Pahiatua by the 6.15 train in the afternoon.
