LABOUR TROUBLES IN AUSTRALIA.
THE WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE. MASTER CARRIERS' CONDEMNATION. Received March 17, 10.35 a.m. SYDNEY, March 17. At. the master carriers' picnic, speakers, dealing with the strike, condemned what they characterised as a conspiracy to down the coastal companies, and declared that the master carriers would not shoulder responsibility in the matter. A DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. MOB RULE ROUND THE WHARVES. .Received March 18, 12.54 a.m. SYDNEY, March 17. ■- The representatives of the three coastal companies waited on the Premier and stated that they were unable to carry on business because mob rule prevailed round the wharves, and hoped thac the Premier would be able to place th* dispute before a competent tribunal for settlement. The Premier promised to do all he could. The strikers actively picket the wharves to prevent non-unionists working. The police force has been strengthened at troublous points. A STRIKE OF WHEELERS. Received March IS, 12.56 a.m. SYDNEY, March 17._ The Burwood and Lambton B pits at Newcastle have been thrown idle owing to a strike of wheelers. The manager of the South Bulli Company objecting to ten men working in certain places in the mine brought about a strike of 500 men. Trouble is anticipated in other mines owned by the same company.
