CORRESPONDENCE.
AMATEUR ATHLETICS,
(To the Editor)
Sir, —It is over twelve months ago since the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club held a sports gathering in Masterton, which unfortunately proved a financial failure. A proportion of the debts incurred at that meeting still remain unpaid. Now, amateur athletics are regarded as the essence of good sport, but I venture to say that if any professional club had incurred a similar financial loss, their engagements would have been met long ago. The whole question should be referred to the New Zealand Association for review. It would be interesting to note the result.—l am, etc OBSERVER. (If the facts are as stated by our correspondent, the position is certainly a regrettable one. We have sufficient faith in the committee of the club, however, to believe that now attention has been publicly drawn to the matter that the financial obligations will be quickly liquidated.—Ed. W.A.)
