FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.
YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS
CONCLUSION OF THE SESSION,
Yesterday morning the U.F.B.A. Conference resumed business, President Hansen being in the chair. The following recommendations of the sub-committee appointed to inquire into various claims was adopted: — That Foreman Robbs (Hillside) be granted the five years' service medal antl bars. That as Fireman Lennard (Bunedin Railway) had not qualified under Rule 11, his claim cannot be entertained. That, in the case of Fireman Whyhow's (Waihi) claim five years' medal, "it was impossible to fix the exact time of his joining the service, yet it was shown that he was entitled to a five years' medal, and it is recommended that it be granted, and that in order to fix the exact date of his joining, the roll book be sent to the Secretary of the Association, otherwise he be entered on the Association Roll as from May, 1902." That the claim of Fireman Stanley (Te Aroha) for five years' medal he not entertained, as he has failed to make sufficient attendances at musters. That the application of Drivers J. Leckie and M. Piper (Dunedin City) for service honours be granted, provided the roll shows that attendances at musters have been in accordance with Rule 11. That the application of Fireman Church (Mosterton) fur twenty-five years' service gold star be granted. It was decided to grant the valour medal for saving life at fire to Lieutenant Ashvvorth, Alexandra South Brigade. Gold stars for twenty-five years' service were presented to B. C. ' Robbins (Hawera), J. A. Hayman (Kaiapoi), A. Harkness (invercargill, and G. P. Holland (Eastown Railway). ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as fol- j lows-.—President, Foreman Wildish (Gipoorna); Vice-Presidents, Secretary Boyes (Nelson) and Superintendent Lucas (Napier); Secretary, J. G. Gilberd (Napier, re-elected); Treasurer, Captain Spriggins (Wanganui); Auditor, J. W. Garner (reelected). The retiring officers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their services. • After the officers had been installed Captain Hansen, retiring President, was presented with an honorary members' certificate, for his services to the Association. Other business of a routine character was transacted and the Conference was then declared closed.
