CANADA AND JAPAN.
Received January 30, 11.53 p.m. OTTAWA, January 30. Mrßordin's resolution protesting against the arrangements, relating to Japanese immigrants was negatived in the House by a majority of 55. Sir Wilfrid Laurier (Premier) declared that he knew Japan did not include in the Japanese Treaty of 1894 a clause restricting immigration. "We are in a better position.without such a provision than the United States with it," said Sir Wilfrid, "because we rely on Japan's good faith." Referring to the value of the alliance between Britain and Japan, he remarked that in the event of war they might see the fleets of Japan and Britain united in the North Pacific against a common enemy, and Japan's fleet, weighing anchor at Vancouver for the protection of British interests.
