BUSH AND GRASS FIRES.
IN THE POVERTY BAY DISTRICT. A SETTLER'S HOUSE BURNED. BY TKLKOIUril —MIESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, January 24. A house owned by Mr Richmond has been lestroyed by the bush fires in the Motu district. The settlers had to fight the flames for days and bury their clothing. SHEDS AND HAYSTACKS AT CARTERTON DESTROYED. BY TELHGRAI'H —I'RESS ASSOCIATION. CARTERTON, January 24. Two sheds and two haystacks, owned by James Jones, were des'royed by a'grass fire this morning at 11.30 o'clock. A fire commenced in a paddock of grass and spread up to the stacks thence to the sheds. There was no insurance on the buildings or stacks, and the loss* is estimated at £SO.
