NEWCASTLE CREEP.
ABOUT THIRTY ACRES AFFECTED. DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT MANY THOUSANDS. SYDNEY, January 18. The new "creep" at Newcastle starts from where the last ended. It embraces an area of about thirty acres. The damage is estimated at many thousands. Amongst the buildings that suffered were the Fire Brigade Station, the Masonic Hall, and a number of large warehouses. The damage done to the roadway is also serious. Received January 20, 1.14 a.m. NEWCASTLE, January 19. The "creep" continues in a mild form. The ground appears to be settling down. While this process is going on some old fissures are widening and new ones are breaking out. At the Cathedral more damage was done, f and cracks opened and spread from the western part eastwards to within a few yard* of the great organ.
