NEWCASTLE WHARF LABOURERS' STRIKE. CONGESTION IN TRADE. Received January 16, 10 a.m. SYDNEY, January 16. Fears of the wharf labourers' strike at Newcastle affecting interState steamship companies has been dispelled. An arrangement has been made between the federated steamship owners and the waterside unions confining the trouble to its present limits. In connection with the delayed departure of the Manuka, the Premier is taking steps to prevent congestion of trade at Newcastle standing in the way of passenger steamers obtaining bunker coal. ANOTHER NEWCASTLE DISPUTE. PELAWMAIN MINE THROWN IDLE. Received January 17, 12.57 a.m. NEWCASTLE, January 16. The Pelawmain mine has been thrown idle owing to a dispute with the wheelers over the hours of starting'and finishing work. NEWCASTLE COAL. A YEAR'S OUTPUT. 1 Received January 16, 10.1 a.m. SYDNEY, January 16. The coal exported from Newcastle last year totalled 4,546,000 tons, of the value of £2,017,000, the value being £453,000, and the tonnage* 570,595 above those of the previous year. The exports to New Zealand totalled 358,720 tons, an increasejof about 500 tons. FIRE AT GANYMEDE. SIX BUSINESS PLACES DESTROYED. Received January 16, 10.1 a.m. SYDNEY, January 16. A fire at Ganymede destroyed six business premises. The extent of the damage is not yet known. PACKING ESTABLISHMENT BURNED. VALUABLE HORSES PERISH. Received January 16, 10.1 a.m. ADELAIDE, January 16. Berry and Cumpany's packing establishment was destroyed by fire. A number of va'uaole horses perished. HIDE MARKET. Received January 17, 1.57 a.m. MELBOURNE, January 16. At the hides sales heaviest "and mediums are firmer, othei'3 are unchanged.
