PARK AND LIBRARY COMMITTEE.

Crs J. C. Ewington (chairman), F. ' W. Temple and J. Elliott attended the meeting of the Borough Park and Library Committee last evening. : It was reported, that there was a balance of £lB to the credit of the Library Account, and that the sum of £127 was available on "the" Park Account. The contract of Mr W. H. Cole for the paintingr of the Tea Kiosk in the Parle was reported to be completed, and the account was authorised for payment. A vote v of thanks was accorded to Mr Cole for painting the roof of the Kiosk free of cost. The committee could not see its way to grant the Wairarapa Cricket Association permission to make a charge at the Park gates on January 23rd and 24th, on the occasion of the cricket match between the Wairarapa and West Coast teams. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the W.F.C.A.* for the generous gift of their old powder magazine, which had been converted into a bathing-shed at the Park lake; also for fencing material. The acting-Town Clerk was instructed to report en the by-laws regulating the use of the Park. It was decided to recommend the Council to give effect to the committee's recommendation, on June 19th last, to raise the stop bank at the back of the Park by two feet for about 22 chains, at an estimated cost of £7O, as in the opinion of the committee the work is an urgent one; and. to urge the Council to reconsider their decision rejecting this recommendation in June last. It was also resolved to recommend that the stop bank be continued to a point beyond the junction of the two streams, a distance of about six chains, at a further estimated cost of £2O. The committee considered that such an extension was now absolutely, essential to the preservation of the Park in winter.
