PERSONAL.

The late Mr W. H. Allswortb, "who died in Masterton on Tuesday afternoon, was 65 years of age, and was born in Middlesex (England) in 1842. He was the son of Mr W. Allsworth, a Royal Academician of Middlesex, and emigrated to New Zealand at an early age; When only 19 years of age he went to work on the "sheep station of his brother, Rev. R. G. Allsworth, at Wanganui. Forty-five years ago, the deceased was engaged to work on Brancepeth station, and for many years he held the position of manager. lie well remembered the days when every man had to grind his own wheat at night for his next day's bread, and all stores for the station had to be packed on bullocks and brought from Wellington to Brancepeth, via the East Coast and Carterton. The deceased settler was a thoroughly practical man in all station work, and a capable judge of stock. For the last few years he had been associated with the firm of Messrs Pinhey Bros, as accountant, and was for many years a personal friend of the members of that firm. A widow and a family of three boys and four girls are left to mourn *,heir loss. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, and" the cortege was a very large one. The Rev. J. N. Buttle officiated at the graveside. Mr and Mrs D. Pickering.of Masterton, will leave Wellington, to-day, by the steamer Wimmera for Sydney, en route to England.
