SIR RICHARD POORE. BANQUETED IN LONDON. ADMIRAL'S SPEECH. LONDON, January 10. The Austral Club banqueted Admiral Sir Richard Poore, who is to succeed Sir'Wilmot Fawkes, as com-mander-in-chief of the Australian squadron. Lord Jersev presided, and those present included Mr W. P. Reeves, New Zealand's High Commissioner, and the Agents-Generals. Sir Richard Poore said that, as a believer in Conservative Imperial unity, he would be-glad of the opportunity of studying on the spot the aspirations, work and difficulties of Australia and New Zealand.
AN EXPLANATION
LONDON, January 10. Sir Richard Poore volunteers the explanation that in using the word "Conservatives" he intended to convey the meaning of co-operative Imperial unitv.
