Received December 17, 7.35 a.m
NEW YORK, December 16.
Admiral Evans starts to-day on a 140 days' voyage with 53 vessels, 16,000 men, and 850 battleship guns.
DEPARTURE OF THE PACIFIC SQUADRON.
AN IMPRESSIVE SPECTACLE. Received December 17, 10.35 p.m. NEW YORK, December 17. President Roosevelt, aboard the "Mayflower," reviewed Admiral Evans' fleet, and led the squadron out of the Bay, amid mighty strains of music. The spectacle was a highly impressive one. COMMENT BY "THE TIMES." EULOGY OF PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. Received December 17, 10.53 p.m. LONDON, December 17. "The Times" says President Roosevelt's enthusiasm is thoroughly British in being leavened with strong practical sense and solid practical aims. The cruise is a demonstration of the view expounded in the latest message to Congress. "The Times" is confident that measures Will be taken to defeat any attempt on the part of labour politicians to turn the visit to the Pacific ports into dangerous demonstrations.
