ALLOCUTION BY THE POPE.
Received December 17, 10.35 p.m ROME, December 17.
The Pope, in his allocution to the Consistory on the occasion of the creation of four cardinals, including the Archbishops of Rheins and Marseilles, deplored the disastrous propaganda of modernism in the bosom of Catholicism itself. If modernists frankly joined the enemies of the Church, the evil would be less. The address prayed that God might enlighten those who are being misled. His Holiness added that the episcopacy had greeted the Papal directions with eagerness
