MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present: —Messrs J. D. Cruickshank (chairman), W. Perry, B Rayner, O. C. Cooper, D. McGregor, jnr., J. Strang, W. McKenzie, W. D. Watson, H. Morrison, D. Caselberg, A. G. Pilmer, G. C. Summerell, J. Morris, J. C. McKillop, T. P. Lett, R. J. Dagg, E. Harper, E. E. Chamberlain. A letter was received from the Wanganui Agricultural Association, stating that the horses, Scout and Spider, had been disqualified during the pleasure of 'he Association, and asking the Masterton Association to endorse the disqualifications. It was resolved to hold the matter over pending further details being received. , Captain Hardy, A.D.C. to his Excellency the Governor, wrote stating that his Excellency hoped to be present at the Show in February next, but was unable to say yet whether her Excellency, Lady Plunket, would be present. A definite answer would he forthcoming later. A suggestion from Mr S. G. Inder ' with reference to changing the system of appointing judges for A. and P. Shows, was ordered to be placed in the suggestion book. Mr J. Sweeney wrote suggesting that the second and third prizes fcr the champion jumping competition at the Show should be increased, as the difference in value between first and second prizes was very noticeable. 1 The letter was "received." Mr J. Shout wrote agreeing to supervise the catering at the Shows for a period of three years on terms agreed upon. Miss Jessie Campbell, Wanganui, wrote offering a special prize of £2 2s for the best lady rider, under 18 years of age, in reform dress, who :has never won a prize in the Show ring in riding competitibns. Competitors are to walk, trot and canter their horses over a given course, and may be called upon to jump a hurdle not more than 3 feet 6 inches in height, The prize was accepted, but it was resolved to ask Miss Campbell to delete the condition regarding jumping, as it was thought that it would have a detrimental effect on the number of entries. > Letters were received from Messrs P. and D. Duncan, Booth, McDonald and Co., and Reid and Gray, implement manufacturers,stating that they could not give any definite promise with regard to exhibiting machinery, etc., at the next Masterton show The Ground Committee reported that it had instructed the secretary to make arrangements for obtainirg the use of the Borough Council's rosd roller, and watering curt for the purpose of making a "suitable running track on the Showgrounds. Messrs Gray and Perry had been instructed to attend to the matter of alterations required in the Ram Fair ri. g. Permission was given to Messrs Abraham a. d Williams, on behalf of.Mr Win. . Perry, to hold a sale of stud stock on the Showgrounds, on February 17th, the day preceding the Show. The cutting of the grass on thp lawn and oval of the grounds was left in. the hands of the chairman. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee submitted the following financial statement: — Dr. balance at last meeting £769 £s lid; expenditure for month. £62 ISs lid; receipts for month, £59 16s; cheques outstanding £24 19s 6d; dr. balance at date, £747 18s 4d. Accounts amounting (o £2B 2s Gd weie recommended for payment. The report was adopted. On tiie motion of Mr Sumrr.erell, it was decided to add to the Farmers' classes two classes for ewes, the competition to be for Messrs Thomas and Cook 's cup,which is to be won twice in succession, or three times at Jfltefvals. The breed of Uie exhibits, which must be longwool cross, is to be stated. Messrs D. G. McDonald, O. Beetham, A. P. Kaw.son, A. McPhee, John Hunter, T. Meredith, and E. Williams, (Te Parae) were elected members of the Association. A canvas for special subscriptions in aid of the Show was taken up in the room, and resulted in £49 13s being obtained.
