A cable from Noumea announces that the Anglo-French New Hebrides Convention was proclaimed at Vila on December 2nd, in the presence of the Governors of Fiji and New Caledonia. NEWCASTLE COAL TROUBLE. SPECIAL COURT MEETING. Received November 10, 1 a.m. SYDNEY, November 9. The special court appointed to deal with the coal troubles held a contract meeting at Newcastle and adjourned till Thursday next. FEDERAL TARIFF.
SOME PROPOSED DUTIES NEGATIVED. Received December 10, 1 a.m. MELBOURNE, December 9. The House of Representatives negatived Sir William Lyne's proposed duty of 10 per cent, on paper for printing newspapers on, and Gd per lb on magazines containing advertisements equal to more than onefifth of the printed matter, and placed both on the free list. IMMIGRANTS FOR NEW ZEALAND. Received December 10. 1 a.m. SYDNEY, December 9. Arrived—Fifeshire, direct from Liverpool. The vessel brings 168 immigrants tor New Zealand.
