The weather was beautifully fine to-day for the match England v. New South Wales. Heavy rain on Saturday night had not affected the wicket, which played splendidly Carter missed Rhodes at 28. Hardstaff had made four when he was badly missed by Blaxland. Both chances were off Cotter. Hardstaff at 17 lifted McCartnev high to the bowler, but he dropped :n easy one in a childish manner. Johnson with a beautiful ball got Rhodes' off-stump ju,«t as be got his half century. Crawford, the newcomer, opened his score by sending the leather clean into the shilling stand for six, but his stay was only brief. Hardstaff reached 50 for an hour's batting, hitting with the utmost freedom. With 7i to his credit he mishit McCartney, Waddy effecting a catch. Blytlie was missed off McCartney's next ball by Johnson. The fielding of the home team was of an inferior character with the exception of Waddy, who fielded brilliantly. Scores:--• ENGLAND. SYDNEY, November 25. ; New South Wales made a poor , stand against the Englishmen in the' , second innings, and were all out for 96. The visitors thus won by 408 runs. . . Trumper opened with a fourer, following on with a brace. He then tipped one of Fielder's fast ones into Braund's hands in the slips, thus ending his career. New South Wales had consoled itself that the deploiable display in the first innings was one of those thing*; that occasionally happen to the best of teams. But the opening of the second innings dispelled all doubts on the point. The English team with a batsmen's reputation now have a bowlers' reputation. Their two innings , on a splendid wicket did not show them up brilliantly as batsmen, but the bowling talent came out exceptionally strong. Fielder's off theory was repeatedly fatal to the home team. Old veterans like Trumper and Noble could not leave the off stuff alone, and speedily fell victims. Diamond, Waddy and Hopkins followed suit, Fielder's average at the time standing at 4 for 16. Duff had a life when the iotal was 29, Braund dropping a ball, but when Crawford relieved Barnes his' second ball settled Duff, and his third was fatal to Blaxland. The crowd became hilarious at the downfall of their own men, and some enthusiasm was aroused by Cotter, who went for the bowling ■while Macaitney kept the wicket I up. The fast bowler had a couple of 'dozen to his credit when he wai given two lives. He continued to bult Braund and Crawford to the lieundarv in rapid succession, scoring 49 i"n 33 minutes. Then he. lifted Blvthe to Fane. Fielder with successive balls got Carter and Johnson. Scores NEW SOUTH WALES. First innings ••• 101 Second Innings. Trumper, c Jones, b Fielder ...
