FIRES.
By Telegraph—Press Associat.'on. AUCKLAND, November 18. A fire at Karangahake, near V\aihi, destroyed four shops and a stable and buggy shed, used by Robertson and Company, grocers, as a temporary storeroom and stable. The fire spread to a billiard room tenanted by Hawker and Company,'and premises recently opened as an agency of the National Bank here. The brigade arrested the blaze, saving the rest of the block of wooden shops. The premises destroyed were partly insured. NAPIER, November 18. A fire at Takapau, yesterday, destroyed Lake's hotel, Neilson's cycle shop, the Bank of New Zealand and Hansen's drapery store. There was no water supply. The insurances on the hotel and bank (owned by the Napier Brewery Company) were £1,750 in the Norwich Union, and £750 in the Australian Alliance. The contents of the hotel were insured for £6OO, and the contents of the bank for £IOO, both in the Norwich Union. The cycle and drapery shops were insured for £250. Hansen's stock was insured for £550.
