CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present —Messrs T. G. Mason (chairman), B. J. Dolan, E. H. Waddington, M. Caselbtrg, D. Donald, H. C. Robinson, J. B. Moodie, and E. E. Chamberlain. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £l6 3s 2d. Mr Waddington moved that the Chief Postmaster be written to asking that the minimum numbar of prepaid letters be reduced from 240 to 120. He thought that 10s worth of letters was a small enough amount to pass through the post office without stamping. This would be a great convenience to business men. Mr Moodie seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr A. Henclerson was elected a member of the chamber on the motion of the chairman. MEETING OF MEMBERS. The quarterly meeting of members was held subsequently, the only other members present being—Messrs J. B. Keith, G. C. Summerell, and J. D. Cruickshank. The only business transacted was the receiving of a deputation with reference to the Mauriceville coal deposits, a report of which appears elsewhere.
