MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Hamuera Ihaia, for his second offence of drunkenness, was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Albert Edward Green was charged with having signed a receipt liable to duty without the same having been duly stamped. Defendant pleaded guilty by letter, and was fined 20s with costs 9s. A similar charge was preferred against M. Hogan, who also pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s with 7s costs. Charles Garotte was charged with having plied a vehicle for hire within the borough without a license, on October 25th. Inspector Cairns said he saw defendant carrying a passengers in a brougham in the borough on race day. "Witness admitted that he did not see any money paid to defendant. The Magistrate said that, as it had not been proved that money had passed, the case would have to be dismissed. Moses Paratene pleaded not guilty to a charge of having used obscene language in Lincoln Road on October 21st. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for defendant. Alexander McMinn testified to hearing the words, specified in the .charge sheet, used on more than one fcjjcasion by defendant when there HfflKhe information of Miss Beatrice Kulloly. Mr B. J. Dolan appeared "or the informant, and Mr C. A. Pownall for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty. After a considerable amount of evidence had been taken, defendant was fined £2, with costs £2, in default 14 days' imprisonment.
