THE DUKEDOM OF PORTLAND.
H. DRUCE CHARGED WITH PERJURY. LONDON, October 25. Herbert Druce appeared at the Marylebone Police Court to answer a charge of perjury. Mr George Hollamby, Druce's counsel, intimated that he would call a New York accountant who would depose that the fifth Duke of Portland, many years ago, confessed to him that he was maintaining a dual personality.
PROPOSED EVIDENCE. SHAM DEATH AND BURIAL. Received Ocober 27, 4.43 p.m. LONDON, October 26. The Druce perjury cape has been adjourned for a fortnight. George Druce's counsel proposes to call Robert Caldwell, of New York to prove that about 1864, at tho Duke of Portland's request, he assisted him to organise Druce's sham death and burial in order to destroy the evidence of the dual personality. Lead was placed in the coffin. He will also call Miss Robinson, who acted as secretary both at the Baker Street bazaar and at Welbeck Abbsy, and who knew Druce and the Duke to be one and the same person, an 1 also Mrs Hamilton, who will depose to hearing the Duke declare that he wished to do away with the Druce personality. " (The perjury charge is laid for the purpose of again raising the claim of Mr G. H. Druce to Dukedom of Portland. The claim is based upon the alleged identity of the late Duke with the late Mr Druce, a London tradesman.)
